After attending the U of M, I moved around the country a bit - lived in Grand Forks, ND; Peoria,Il; St. Louis,Mo; and then on to the Big Apple. While New York was exciting, I decided to move to the greatest place on Earth - North Carolina. I've been here since 1989 and now teach high school English (Back To School!) at High Point Central High - home of The Bison! I won't be able to attend our reunion as I have to be back in school at that time. I'll miss seeing all the guys from the "Gad! He's Bald" group as well as all you other classmates from yesteryear. I do get back to the Land O' Lakes regularly for fishing and a visit with family (it's great to have the summer off!)

High school seems so long ago and not so relevant to life today, but for the many deep and enduring friendships forged.  I miss the relatively uncomplicated existence, comfortable lifestyle and indulgence, but not the teenage angst, pimples and raging hormones (I have my kids for that).

We were idealistic and adventuresome and hopefully still are.

After bothering to get a PhD in pure mathematics, I have been working backwards my whole professional life to end up in... elementary school math! But it's much deeper than you might think. I've also worked off and on with a project in Alaska designing elementary math curriculum from Yup'ik Eskimo elders' traditional knowledge: subsistence fishing and preserving food, navigating by the stars over the frozen tundra, elaborate symmetric needlework patterns.

I moved to sunny California in 1981 and discovered that I was actually a cheerful person. This was confirmed when I spent a sabbatical in Minnesota in 1995, and relapsed into seasonal affective gloom. So I stay in deserty places, and grow citrus in my yard.

I married David Dennis, math historian/education researcher, jazz baritone saxophonist, artist, and virtuoso gardener, in 2002. For free, I got two stepsons and a stepgranddaughter. What a deal!

Marital Status : Married second timeNumber of Children: 3 & 3Grandchildren: 2 and 10As I write this out it has been great to watch how many of you have responded. The 25th reunion was a lot of fun and it looks like there will be more attending this one. Thanks Organizers for the exceptional effort in getting this one going.
I left MN in ‘72 and had a fun and fulfilling career in the Air Force. Retired in ‘92 in the Black Hills of SD.
Amazing how many people believe SD is a southern state. We like to think our weather is in the “banana belt” as we get snow in the hills and very little in Rapid City.
Three kids from first marriage, Debbie 37, a pharmacy tech and student in Mpls, Susan 36, a police officer in Shreveport, LA, with first granddaughter, Bayleigh, and David 29, with second granddaughter, Kasey, en route to Minot, ND from AK. Close enough to visit. Yeah!
My three step kids blessed us with ten that are all in Rapid so we stay busy.
Have had several great trips the second time around. A honeymoon trip through CO and UT. Disney World a couple times. Texas. Alabama. Two Alaska cruises.
I’m less than an hour from some of the best skiing east of the Rockies until New England. And every August we get the sound of freedom, no not jets, the bike rally at Sturgis. I keep trying to recognize Roger Swedlund riding around, as for the 25th he rode in directly from Sturgis. Not as many golf courses as MN but enough to challenge. I’m bringing my clubs in Aug.
Memries, by Barbara Streisand , pretty much says it, “Can it be that it was all so simple then? “
Mid-August ought to be a real hoot in MN. See you then.

I often joke with my students about the fact that I'm a high school dropout with a PhD.
I left high school after our junior year and enrolled at the University of Minnesota under an early admission program. To tell the truth, I was driven more by a feeling of social awkwardness than intellectual hunger, so I anticipate this reunion with a bit of the social anxiety that drove me away.

After teaching high school English for 9 years in both Minneapolis and St. Paul, I earned a doctorate and began teaching at Carleton College, where this fall I will begin my 24th year. During my sabbaticals, I've also taught at Syracuse University, UC-Berkeley, and Minnesota State Correctional Facility-Stillwater, where I produced an anthology of creative writing of work by offenders serving life sentences. I've written 5 books about adolescents and literature.

I live happily in St. Paul with my husband John who, perhaps fittingly, is also a professor.

I  left Minneapolis in 1975, and moved to southern California. I started out in San Francisco, then LA . For the last 30 years, I’ve lived in San Diego with my beautiful wife of 31 years, Patti. We have 3 daughters; Danielle, aged 30, Rachel, 28 and Chloe, 13.  Danielle and Rachel are married and Rachel, is expecting my 1st grandchild in September.

I have worked along side David LeSage, also a Park graduate, at a company called Stanford Sign and Awning for last 15 years.  We make a good team as we sell signage to hospitals, restaurants, etc.

Furniture design has been a life long passion for me. I recently embarked on my own venture called Ember Lighting. I designed a collection of lamps that I am marketing to upscale design firms. Check out the website at emberlighting.com.

As I reflect back over the last 40 years since I graduated, I realize that watching my family branch out, fulfilling my love of design, playing a few rounds of golf as often as I can and spending time with my wife, life has been very sweet.
Looking forward to seeing everyone in August.

Congratulations and THANK YOU to the Organizing Committee!  You have done a great job!!

I have been practicing law for the last 30+ years, and now have my own law firm and am loving it.  The details are on my website.

I am Blessed to have a wonderful husband, David Koontz, and we've been together 10 years.

As a community service, I'm working with some doctors and medical professionals on a website to help family caregivers for elderly loved ones -- many common issues that we all face.  This project grew out of learning experiences in caring for my beloved Mother, who passed away last September at nearly age 94.  She was very supportive and encouraging of this project during the last two years of her life, and it is dedicated in loving memory of her. The site has now been launched at: www.HelpingYouCare.com.

It would be great to see everyone in our Class again!  It is fun reading all your bios and comments and briefly catching up.  Look forward to reading more!

40 years....
I smile as I sit and contemplate the years in SLP and the years since.  There were MANY great times and laughs in SLP.  I had a very good time in school…the Proms, Sadie Hawkinson Dance, football games, tearing around Park in my mother’s convertible and generally being normal.
Since 1970 life has been good.  I attended Normandale but left before graduation as I thought I would be drafted.  I was not drafted so I went back to the U of M... again not complete.  1975 I formed a partnership buying and selling natural foods. We started with 19 stores and about 30 products and four year later and over 100 outlets and 300 products I moved on. 1976 a girl from SLP, Mary Lamb, and I were married.  Some may remember Mary and I dated in high school. We dated for seven years before we married. So I guess we are one of the most “together couples” …
In 1981 our son, Christopher was born and 3 years after Christopher, our daughter, Maggie was born.  When our children were born Mary and I wanted a life where she could be home for the children – we did accomplish this and I am very grateful.
Christopher became a carpenter after working on fabulous log homes in northern Minnesota. Maybe you have seen John Anderson Log Home in Walter, MN? He is very good at his trade and has worked on several incredible homes and projects.
Maggie graduated from CSU, Colorado State Univ. with a degree in Animal Science four years ago. Since graduating she spent one year in a vet clinic in St. Paul. Maggie must have much of my blood for travel as she has visited many areas of the world and now is in Alaska for the second time.
1984 I joined a very small manufacturing company located Brooklyn Center. Today I still work for this company and currently I am the international manager. It has been a great job from my selfish perspective. I have traveled almost the entire globe and learned so much about how great people really are. The negative is that I have missed much in my family life. But I must say… I have some very nice photos. Photography has occupied much of my time and I justify the abnormal expense by NOT smoking or drinking…well some wine occasionally.
It will be great fun to see everyone.

I have been living on the East Coast since graduating high school. I went to Syracuse University in upstate New York, where I met my husband. After I graduated, we settled in Philadelphia, where our two sons were born. My husband’s work brought us to Washington, D.C., 21 years ago, which was a wonderful move and provided an exciting environment for us as a family. I don’t get back to Minnesota as often as I would like, but I do enjoy keeping up with all things Minnesota by watching state politics from Washington and seeing Coen brothers movies. Are there other St. Louis Park natives living in the D.C. area? I’d love to hear from you. I’m looking forward to the reunion—thanks to the organizers for putting this together.

After graduation, I attended Normandale Community College for a year and then joined the Navy to “see the world”.  When the Vietnam War ended, I qualified for an early release and finished up college at Gustavus.  I was then hired by Kodak and transferred to Ohio where I met my wife of over thirty+ years.  Six relocations later we landed in Des Moines and I joined IBM so that we could stay in this great place for raising a family.

We are now snowbirds spending our winters in Phoenix and summers in Des Moines. Our oldest son lives in Des Moines with his wife and our granddaughter. Our other son is a career officer in the Navy and is married with our second granddaughter. Our daughter was teaching at a Lutheran seminary in Hong Kong  but is now back in the U.S. and will become a Lutheran pastor soon.

Favorite activities include hiking, fishing, travel, snow skiing and volunteering.

Peace! Will be far-out to see SLP 60's classmates gathered together. Thanks reunion organizers.  40 years is a long trip. Hoping yours was mostly good and/or a learning experience. Will highlight some roads traveled since SLP. Went to the Minneapolis College of Art and Design - got into Earth Art. Lived in the Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania at the Himalayan Institute of Yoga Science and Philosophy, served as Art Director, met my husband and our son was born there. A decade later, back to Minneapolis. Have enjoyed learning about the vital importance and beauty of native plant communities, an interest spurred by work at the Mpls. Nokomis Naturescape. This effort led to the Minneapolis Monarch Festival (monarchfestival.org). Am fortunate to share life with 2 good-hearted souls, Richard and Liam. We share interests in nature and art. A big change coming - Liam begins college this month. Currently, I bike commute to part-time work at a neighborhood wellness center. Keep the faith!

This is a great website. Thanks to the reunion committee for all of their hard work and creativity.

Forty years ago I was preparing to go to the U of M and I graduated six years later with degrees in child psych, social welfare and a teaching certification. I worked for a few years in child development, got married, and then returned to the U of M for graduate school in Industrial Relations (HR and labor relations). Following grad school, my son was born, and after years of working as a HR manager and consultant, and trying to juggle family and career, I was fortunate to be able to leave the corporate world and become a stay-at-home mom. That was the best job ever!

Recently my son graduated from St. Olaf College and my husband and I are thrilled to have him back home. I currently work with a friend in catering and also with my brother for an inner city youth leadership foundation. Life is good. I am so looking forward to seeing my classmates at the reunion.
