Ute Yi
September 23, 1950 ~ November 20, 2023 (age 73)
Ute Sophie Ingrid Elizabeth Yi, 73, was born September 23, 1950, and passed away on November 20, 2023. Ute was born to loving parents Ingrid and Wilhelm Boeckler in Witten, Germany. During her childhood, she and her parents moved to Winnipeg, Canada, and then to Minneapolis, Minnesota, US. She was an only child. She met her husband of 52 years, Wesley Yi, in Minneapolis at the store where she worked. He asked her out and she told him to return in a few weeks once she finished her schooling at Patricia Stevens in fashion merchandising. They talked on the phone during this time until the day finally came when he could take her out. Within months of dating, they were engaged on June 18, 1971, and then married on September 18, 1971. They went on to have 4 children, Jamison (Andrea), Randell (Nichole), Jordan (Katie), and Natalie (Travis) Sever. Ute, Wesley, and Jamison moved around a bit from Minnesota before finally settling in Illinois in December 1983 where Randy, Jordan, and Natalie were born. She spent a lot of time in the car, transporting her children to all their activities and friends through the years, it made her happy to do so. She was supportive and encouraging in every way, sweet, thoughtful, loving, and beautiful. Ute was always someone to go to for everything and anything. She was a proud and fiercely loving mother. Ute was an amazing grandmother to 9 grandchildren, Peter, Laura, Rachel, Ryan, Rebecca, Melissa, Hailey, Brynn, and Will. On May 31, 2019, Ute retired from being a teaching assistant working with special education students for 20 years at McCarty Elementary. She was compassionate and kind. She loved working with children and watching them grow and shine. She was a daughter of the sun, loving to be out in nature and appreciating its beauty, the sun shined brightly through her. She lived life with the most positive attitude and approached everything with energy and excitement. She loved babysitting her grandchildren, going for walks, trying new things, and planning trips. Ute took care of the whole family in any way she could and was amazing at it. Ute was a remarkable woman, wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be incredibly missed. Services will be held at Dieterle Memorial Home 1120 S. Broadway in Montgomery on Monday December 4, 2023, from 3pm until time of service at 7pm.
