Barb LaVigne
1952-02-04 2013-07-20
Barbara LaVigne of rural Star Prairie left us unexpectedly on July 20, 2013 at Regions Hospital, after the sudden onset of serious health issues.
Barbara Joanne LaVigne was born February 4th, 1952, in Stevens Point, WI, to John and Margaret Hougdahl. She attended school in Colfax through her sophomore year, and graduated high school in St. Louis Park, MN. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in social work.
She married Nick LaVigne in 1979, and they had three children, Tyler, Anna, and Tucker.
Barb worked as a social worker for Polk County, and has worked at Baldwin Area Medical Center for over 20 years.
She loved to be with her family, work in her flower gardens, read, and travel.
While sharing our loss and our memories, friends mentioned a few thoughts that reveal a lot about Barb: She made the time for what was important- family and friends; She was the “conduit” that kept the extended family connected; Her irreverent sense of humor raised raucous laughter-and eyebrows; If you asked for her opinion or advice, you could depend on getting the unvarnished “truth according to Barb”; She went above and beyond to meet the emotional and financial needs of patients and their families; and this was repeated by many, “She was my best friend”.
Left to miss her and celebrate her life are: Husband, Nick; children Tyler (Jenny Phillips-Kube), Anna, and Tucker. Brothers John Hougdahl (Ginny), Doug Hougdahl (Debi), and Tommy Hougdahl. “Grandchildren,” Jake and Lucy Kube. Niece (Cassie) and nephews (Robin and Josh), Aunt Bev, and many cousins. Mother-in-law, Ina LaVigne, and sisters and brothers-in-law. Many life-long friends, close friends, neighbors, and co-workers.
Preceded in death by: Parents John and Margaret Hougdahl; father-in-law Norman “Stony” LaVigne.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to SART (Sexual Assault Response Team, http://stcroixvalleysart.org/), or The Family Resource Center in Baldwin, WI.( http://www.frcscv.org/). Barb worked closely with these organizations, and they were very dear to her heart.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, July 24th from 5 to 8 pm at the Williamson- White Funeral Home, 222 Harriman Ave. North, Amery, WI. 54001.
There will be a celebration of Barb’s life at East Immanuel Lutheran Church on Thursday, July 25th, 207 120th Street, Amery, WI. A visitation will take place from 10-11 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow. Burial will be at the East Immanuel Cemetery.
