I am really looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion! I graduated from the University of Minnesota in Fashion Merchandising in 1974.  Since 1982, I have been the owner and director of Premiere School of Self-Improvement and Professional Modeling,  St. Louis Park which I created to help others gain confidence and to establish modeling careers.   In 1985, I was selected as Mrs. Minnesota.  My husband and I have directed the Mrs. Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Georgia Pageants since 1990.  In addition, I am the primary pageant trainer in the Midwest for competitions such as Miss USA and Miss America and have coached hundreds of winners including those in 15 states and 5 countries.  In 2018, I was honored to receive the Best Pageant Coach Award (selected worldwide) at the very first Global Beauty Awards (the Academy Awards of the pageant industry), held in Seattle, WA.  In 2019, I was named one of the Top 10 Best Coaches worldwide by the Pageant Planet. Additionally, I am the Industry Expert for Pageantry Magazine, and write my own column providing tips and advice for contestants.  In 2017, Marcia Brucciani and I made a major attempt to revitalize the Parkettes with existing students at SLP High School.  After giving it a full year, we realized that times have changed and unfortunately, the support of students and the administration was lacking. However, we are still proud of all that we accomplished as a team! My husband, Carl is a St. Paul attorney.  We have 2 grown sons, Scott and Brian and a wonderful daughter-in-law, Marcy.   Additionally, we are loving every minute of being grandparents to baby granddaughter, Brielle!

So, how did that Cute Little Fella on the left (a first-grader at Fern Hill) turn into that Graying Old Fart on the right (a 39-year California resident, the last 30 in Alameda)?  In any case, I was unable to attend the last reunion and am really looking forward to catching up and swapping stories, and hope some of you feel the same way.  P.S.  a free drink to the first person who can identify the individuals in the pictures behind my 'now' photo.  Free dinner if you know the source of the pictures. Medical Technologist Single 2012-08-06 15:33:58
Forty years??? I remember Friday being “movie day” at Cedar Manor (and my parents saved many of my crayoned masterpieces documenting what we watched). One film featured cotton-plugged tubes growing cultures of bacteria in racks in an incubator. (You don’t remember it?!) That movie wasn’t memorialized in my scrapbook and little did I know where it would one day lead. In 1974 I received a B.S. in Medical Technology from the University of Minnesota and went on to enjoy a career of more than 30 years in medical microbiology. I retired a few years ago as supervisor of the Microbiology and Molecular Diagnostics Laboratories at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center, having worked there my whole career. The work was significant, challenging and fun; I had fantastic coworkers and bosses; and I even got to do teaching, research projects and writing along with the daily clinical work. It was the perfect job for me, and I am so grateful for those years. What was not so perfect was the daily commute on the Crosstown Highway, hence the early retirement. Since they tend to put hospital labs in the basement, I’m now appreciating sunshine, birds, flowers and the other simple pleasures subterranean life does not afford.

What is most important in my life now is being a part of my church (Faith Presbyterian in Minnetonka), where I have the joy of living out the answer to the big questions of life I had hardly begun to comprehend sitting on the patchwork, carpet-square rug in Humanities class! I also increasingly treasure the blessings of family and the gift of special friends.

It’s fun to read what all of you have written about your lives. Where did the time go?! I only wish I had made the effort to become better acquainted with more of you during our school days. It was fun for me (with very little musical talent) to be able to learn about music and to play the violin in the school orchestra for so many years. I still enjoy classical music, but I’ve grown wiser and only take out my violin when no one is around to hear me! And I also continue to cultivate microbes, but now it’s only on the leftovers in the back of the refrigerator.

High School dreams and 40th reunion reality aren't quite the same, but life is good.  I've been a life long resident of Minnesota, although I did wander over to St. Paul for a number of years.  2010 is an exciting year.

Enjoying retirement--get to spend a lot of time with my 2 grandchildren.  I also volunteer for the Animal Humane Society, City of Plymouth and a number of other organizations.  Life is good!
