Jeff attended the University of Colorado/Boulder and received his BFA in Visual Arts from Minneapolis College of Art and Design. He received his MA from San Francisco State University (Creative Arts Interdisciplinary Program at the Center for Experimental and Interdisciplinary Arts).
Jeff was an artist, and in his 50’s he returned to an early love of music and began writing, performing and recording his songs. Jeff also did freelance graphic design and also designed museum exhibits. He was married to Kathy Geritz and they have no children. After moving to San Francisco in 1979, he bought a house in Oakland in 1984, where he lived until his death.
Beginning in the late 1990s, his art projects were focused on his neighborhood and included books, temporary and permanent installations, a paper archive and a website (under construction) relating to the neighborhood, and community projects. (See his website sharedground.org). His earlier art work included photo and text pieces and pastel drawings, which he exhibited widely.
Jeff died August 24, 2019 of complications from leukemia.
